SCD Study

The Early Self-Control Development (SCD Study) and School Readiness Study

The Early Self-Control Development and School Readiness Study is currently seeking families to participate in a study of early childhood self-control! We are studying children’s behavior patterns, cognitive and emotional development, and school readiness. We are also examining family demographics and dynamics as well as parent behavior and personality. Participating families can earn up to $75 in gift cards! We are looking for families with children about to turn 3 years of age.

Participation includes two phases: an online survey portion and a laboratory visit portion. You will complete an online survey where you will be asked to read a list of statements and rate how they apply to you or your child. During the lab visit, we will examine your child’s neural and physiological activity in a noninvasive manner and collect cortisol through saliva samples to examine physiological influences on child self-control. We are currently accepting families interested in participation in both phases. Our goal will be to have children participate in the lab visit within one month of their third birthday. For more detailed information please email us at scdstudy@tamu.edu.

Everyone in our lab is trained in the protection of human participants and will use discretion when handling any family’s data.
