Field Experiences

The School Psychology program has a commitment to blending field-based experiences with academic training.

First-year students work in various public schools to complete course assignments. Students have opportunities to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This practice continues in the second year both through coursework and the therapy practicum.

Students complete therapy field experience over two semesters. Also in the second year; students complete an integrated assessment practicum in local schools. Others at the CAC on campus supervised by a credentialed faculty member.

In the third year, students work in public schools. Supervisors that have credentials for school-based practice manage the students. A University Supervisor also oversees the students. They are Licensed Psychologists, and for school-based experiences, credentialed for school-based practice.

Students will have continuous access to faculty who are Licensed Psychologists.

Some field experiences may need background checks, fingerprints, or TB tests.

Many students gain added experience in other settings and contexts. Sites should meet the interests and needs of individual students. 

If a licensed psychologist is not available, a University Supervisor will provide guidance. Any external experience (i.e., externship) must combine with academic training. Field experiences should be sequential, cumulative, and graded in complexity.
