SPED Course Sequences

   SPECIAL EDUCATION PREREQUISITES UNDERGRADUATE

 

The following courses are required of all students enrolled at TAMU who intend to apply for admission into Special Education.

INST 310 Understanding Special Populations with a Grade of "B" or better is a prerequisite for admission.

SPED 302     Instructional Design for Students with Disabilities is taken during the semester of application for admission to the program

Once accepted into the program, the following courses are taken in a four semester sequence.

SEFB 312                  Reading for Students with Disabilities

SEFB 471                  Classroom and Behavior Management

EPFB 428                  Collaboration in School Settings

EPFB 484                  Block I: Professional Responsibilities and Ethical Practices

 

Block II

EDTC 311                 Adaptive/Assistive Technology

SEFB 311                  Assessment of Students with Disabilities

SEFB 414                  Methods & Issues in Low-incidence Disabilities

SEFB 442                Teaching Students with Emotional Disturbances and Behavior Disorders

EPFB 484                  Block II: Professional Practices and Methodology in Teaching Arithmetic and Science

 

Block III

SEFB 320*               Education and Employment Issues in Secondary Special Education

INST 322                   Foundations of Education in a Multicultural Society

BEFB 472 (Fall)          Bilingual and Dual Language Methodology OR

NST 332 (Spring)       Second Language Interdisciplinary Studies and Assessment

KINE 429                   Adaptive Physical Activities

            * Indicates a writing course (W course)

 

Block IV

SEFB 425                  Student Teaching in Special Education

SEFB 426                  Effective Instruction of Students of Diverse Abilities

 

NOTE: There are additional courses required for your professional discipline and your emphasis area. You will be advised about the courses and sequences by the academic coordinator.
