Dedicated scholarships for students in special education:
State of Texas Special Education Recruitment and Retention Grant Scholarships: Scholarships are available for Special Education majors annually as funds are available. Requirements include a current GPA of 2.75, completion of all documents associated with the scholarship, and a guarantee that the recipient will pass the certification exams for Special Education teaching. Application procedures for the scholarship is announced annually through the Special Education listserv (as funding is available), and all funds are distributed to those qualified.
Glenn G. & Sharon L. Gibson Scholarship: A recipient must be seeking a degree in special education. Eligibility Requirements: minimum 3.0 GPR, classified as a sophomore, junior or senior, must be a U.S. and Texas resident, demonstrated leadership skills, and participated in recognized university organizations.
Andrea E. McKenna '08 Memorial Scholarship: The recipient must be junior/senior classification and admitted to the special education program. Among equally deserving students, preference should be given first to members of the Catholic Students Association, provided the CSA remains a recognized student organization at Texas A&M University, and second to students from Galveston County. Eligibility Requirements: must show examples of extracurricular activities, leadership positions, and provide a biography of Andi McKenna's life and aspirations.
