Graduate Admissions

Two application forms are needed: The Office of Graduate Admissions form and the Educational Psychology Department form.

The Office of Graduate Admissions at Texas A&M University requires the following to apply:

  • Completed and signed graduate application accompanied by a $50 application fee ($75 for international applicants)
  • Official transcript from each higher education institution previously attended
  • Official GRE scores that are less than five years old
  • Official TOEFL score that are less than two years old for international applicants only (see OGS directions for waivers)

Applicants may submit additional materials as they wish.

Admission to the Department of Educational Psychology is based on consideration of GPA for previous work, GRE verbal and quantitative scores, letters of recommendations, and biographical profile. Several programs also require interviews.

In addition to the various indicators of academic merit, the following are also considered:

  • Personal Characteristics: fluency in languages other than English that are spoken by students/clients with whom our graduates would expect to work; motivation characteristics, pro-social orientation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Life and/or Work Experiences: life and/or professional experience with populations with increased risk for educational and psychological adjustment difficulties.
  • Career Goals and Interests: expression of specific goals and interests in meeting educational and mental health needs of populations with increased risks.

Deadlines for Graduate Applications:

  • December 1 -  All doctoral (Ph.D.) programs
  • October 15  -  All Master's programs for spring admission (except School Counseling which does not admit for Spring)
  • March 15   -   All Master's programs for summer and fall admission
  • April 1 & July 1 - Hispanic Bilingual Education Ph.D. & Special Education Ph.D. alternative deadlines, priority is given those students who apply by December 1st.

It is important to note that within the Department of Educational Psychology, the program faculty determines admission of an applicant to the specific program.  Therefore, one applies to the specific program which then bases its admission decision on all of the above mentioned factors, as well as on space and resources available within the program and the department.
