Deb Simmons Receives Faculty Mentoring Award

Deb Simmons, professor of special and bilingual education in the Department of Educational Psychology, was awarded the 2008 College of Education and Human Development Outstanding Faculty Mentoring Award. 

"Deb has always demonstrated respect and a genuine interest in my development and professional well-being," Jorge Gonzalez, assistant professor of school psychology, wrote in her nomination letter. "Throughout our collegial relationship, she has facilitated my gradual acquisition of skills and resources needed to succeed as a scholar and as a professional. She has encouraged me to develop unique strengths by acting as a mentor in research and other scholarly pursuits."

This award recognizes tenured faculty members who have given selflessly of their time, knowledge and energy to guide and support one or more assistant professors in their progress toward tenure. Simmons will be recognized at the college awards ceremony in the fall.
