WHAT IS THE ADHD CLINIC?
The Texas A&M ADHD Clinic offers comprehensive, integrated, state-of-the-science assessment and intervention services for children, adolescents, and families dealing with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The ADHD clinic's individualized, integrated approach to treatment recognizes that ADHD may affect a child's social, academic, and behavioral success and poses challenges for the entire family. After a comprehensive assessment, the ADHD Clinic offers scientifically-validated interventions that build on child and family strengths to address areas of concern, including child self-management, parent-child interactions, and home-school collaboration.

WHAT IS ADHD?
ADHD is a chronic disability that affects from 3 to 7% of children and adolescents consisting of the following features:

  • Problems in Focusing Attention
  • Impaired Impulse Control
  • Problems Regulating Motor Behavior

TChild TestingHE ASSESSMENT COMPONENT
There is no single “test” for ADHD.  We provide a comprehensive evaluation to firmly establish a diagnosis, rule out other causes, and identify coexisting conditions which may be a focus of treatment.  Every assessment is individualized to the needs of the client and their family.  Some clients may require a complete evaluation with testing, but others may only need an abbreviated evaluation.

THE TREATMENT COMPONENT
Recognizing that ADHD usually requires a combination of psychological, medical, and educational treatments, we develop an individualized treatment plan involving one or more of the following scientifically-based modules with either the child or the parents:

  • Child-focused Modules
    • Developing strategies to optimize classroom learning
    • Coping with anger
    • Getting along with peers
    • Diminishing anxiety and sadness
  • Parent-focused Modules
    • Empowering parents to manage difficult behavior and to enhance family relationships
    • Teaching parents home-based and school-based strategies to support academic success

OUR MISSION
Texas A&M’s Counseling and Assessment Clinic (CAC) is a community-based clinic that provides psychological services for all members of the community.
