SPED Course RequirementsWhat are the course requirements for the Special Education Program?
Once you are admitted in the program (Application Procedures), you will begin a four semester sequence called "Blocks" described below. Each block includes courses and related field experiences that provide progressive knowledge and skill sets necessary to be a competent teacher.
Block I: Your courses will include learning specialized techniques for teaching diverse learners; collaboration with teachers; behavioral management; and reading instruction and assessment which contribute to your overall teaching skills.

Block II: Your courses will include assessment in classroom settings; assistive and adaptive technology; methods and issues in low incidence disabilities; and teaching students with emotional and behavioral disorders which contribute to specialized teaching activities.
Block III: Your courses include transition issues; multicultural teaching and methodologies; and adaptive physical activities which contribute to teaching across ages and diversity.
Block IV: Your experiences include seminars that provide which contribute to induction into the teaching profession. |
