How Do I Get Admitted in SPED

How do I get admitted to the Special Education Program?

Current Texas A & M Students:

If you are a current Texas A & M student, you will need to apply to the special education program. You need to have a current GPR of 2.5 or better, and a grade of "B" or better in INST 210/310 and SPED 302. Typically application for admission occurs at the end of the sophomore year or at the beginning of the junior year. We have a capacity of 30 students for each Fall and Spring cohort; therefore, space is limited. Meeting the basic criteria does not guarantee admission. The student handbook (student handbook) can provide you with more information about the admission process.

The application process includes the following information and items:

  • Current resume
  • Three letters of reference from the following: (Recommendation Form)
    • A current professor (not special education) who can address your academic potential
    • Teacher or administrator who can address your teaching potential and ability to work with children
    • A community member who can address your academic potential, your teaching potential and/or your ability to work with children
  • A professional statement

Professional Phase Application

Deadlines:

October 1 for the Spring Semester

March 1 for the Fall Semester

Prospective Students:

If you are not currently a Texas A & M student, you will need to apply to the university first. (Texas Common Application)  Once admitted, follow the procedures above.
